Brief History: Rowan was born and raised in Ireland, and from a very early age showed an interest in plants, animals, and the way things worked. While other children played with dolls or sports, Rowan was much more content to stay in and crush bugs to look at under a microscope; or dissect frogs she caught down by the river. Rowan does have a great respect for all plants and animals, and doesn't see the death of a few to better her understanding of the rest to be a bad thing.
Rowan's rebellious stage came in high school. In response to the intolerance between her Catholic parents and neighborhood protestants she cared little for Christianity on a whole and turned her attention instead to more earth-based forms of religion. But the 'rebel' side of her interest in 'Paganism' died when she began to learn that there was a whole other side to the plants and animals that she'd so enjoyed studying as a child: there was a magic side. Every living thing was a symbol for one thing or another and this she found both fascinating and empowering.
Taking the knowledge with her to University, Rowan hope to combine what she learned through folklore and what she learns in the sciences to re-invent herbal medicine in a way that would be more beneficial not only to the body, but to the mind and spirit as well.
